At the Berkeley Student Food Collective, we like REAL FOOD. What is real food? The Real Food Challenge defines it as: food which truly nourishes producers, consumers, communities, and the earth. In order for food to be considered real, it must be local, fair, ecologically sound, and humane. At the Berkeley Student Food Collective, we strive to bring real food to the Berkeley community.
The Real Food Challenge is about students having the power to create real change. If you want to learn more about the food movement, then you should consider attending the upcoming Real Food Summit. It is going to be held from Friday, February 17 to Sunday, February 19 at UC Santa Cruz. The activities include: speeches from people involved in the food movement, workshops, field trips, panel discussions, an opportunities fair, and much more.
We are happy to know that young food activists are getting together to discuss food issues. This is the kind of organization and discussion that facilitates social change. For example, once upon a time some Berkeley students were unhappy about the food served on the UC Berkeley campus. They decided to create the Berkeley Student Food Collective. Creative ideas such as that one may manifest from the summit. It definitely sounds like a positive, worth while event.
